Northampton-based geek core band “YT-1300” are a three-piece that create fun punk parodies of the beloved Star Wars universe. The band have been involved in Bloodstock’s Metal 2 The Masses 2025, and played a number of punk shows such as Club Warhead and The Horn Battle of the Bands.
The 2:16 track is exactly what it says on the tin, a punk banger filled with film references to appease any true fan. Listening back to previous tracks like “Mace” and “L3-37”, their latest single “12 Systems” is certainly on brand, with an immediate hit that gets the head banging. Getting into the chorus, you can certainly see a sing-a-long opportunity here. I expect to see “YT-1300” perform at MCM Comic Con or Star Wars Celebration in the coming years, and fitting that SWC in Japan just concluded over the Easter weekend.
The music really taps into the foundational classic punk rock elements through both the vocals and the instruments, with the angry undertones and expressive style of play. Punk has certainly evolved in sound over the years, but something that YT-1300 are absolutely nailing, geek references aside, is the raw experience punk has offered us through the decades.
The band are self recorded, mixed and mastered.
If you’re a Star Wars fan that likes a real punk tune then the band certainly created a perfect lovechild, detailing references while also offering a stomping Sex Pistols vibe.
You can follow YT-1300 on Facebook here.
“12 Systems” is out on 4th May 2025.
