The first track we’re graced with is “Tempest”, a heavy opener that gives off a few different vibes. We’ve got those solid vocals accompanied by a good drum beat, making it already a great track for a live show - one that’ll really get feet moving. It moves into a lighter section, but don’t be fooled - the lyrics and eerie tone are just as dark. This song isn’t only a statement, it’s a warning.
Next is “Denial”, another heavy instalment. We’re greeted with a different vocal style here, more punk and leaning into their hardcore roots, before being accompanied by the black metal once again. What’s great about this transition of tracks is that the similarities match up while the core of the song gives us a new offering of adrenaline-filled storytelling.
“The Dying Light” comes from a new angle, changing up the feel of the EP. It’s a great flow, showing us more that the band has to offer. The style of vocals shifts here as well, which demonstrates a few other styles the band is capable of. Still angry, still heavy, and still of excellent quality. The lyrical exploration of collectivism here is masterfully done, shining light on society’s risk of collapsing in the modern age.

“To the Teeth” is where things shift again, with a softer instrumental beginning. It’s true to the hardcore genre, pumping out some near-Being As An Ocean vocals, but backed with heavier foundations. The lyrics are filled with imagery, and are cleverly linked to the previous track “From the Tail”- a 31 second intro to the finale. A particular favourite lyric in this song would be “a tree running backwards, killing its leaves”, which conjures a strong mental image while also honing in emotively.
Overall, the EP does an excellent job at shining a light on key issues of today, in an aggressive, creative, and thought-provoking way. Each track offers something new, in its own way, whilst still holding true to the band’s sound and messages. The splicing of hardcore, post-rock and black metal works very well across the board, adding to the urgency of the messages in the lyrics.
